FRONT PORCH SINGIN'

Oh my, Oak Ridge Boys fans, put your seatbelts on, 'cause you're in for a wonderful ride here!  The Boys have absolutely outdone themselves with this release!

At long last, we have a brand new, full length, studio album from the legendary, sensational, unmatchable, unwavering, and loveable, Oak Ridge Boys.  And let me assure you
they did NOT disappoint. We have a silver platter here of 11 songs that are pure enjoyment from beginning to end.

Instead of breaking down each of the 11 songs here, I'm going to be a bit more general on this review. This album is worth it's weight in gold, let me assure you.  Let's start with
old-time standards such as, "Life's Railway To Heaven," "Rock My Soul," "Swing Down Chariot," and "Unclouded Skies."  Upon seeing these "tired old classics," one may wrinkle their nose in disappointment...DON'T!  Each of these classics are newly recorded and have a fresh feel, with the old "gospel recording sound." The Oaks are masters at this, period.

To be much less general, the remaining songs are gold.  "Life Is Beautiful" is, well...beautiful.  Duane sings this to perfection, and the harmonies elicit goose bumps.
"Love, Light & Healing" is a beautiful song with a perfect message for today's backwards clown-world.  "Old Ways" is the absolute stand out track on this album, in my opinion.
This song is William Lee Golden at his finest, laying out "yesterday's" values...and we quickly realize that we need those values TODAY, immediately!  "Promised Land" is an absolutely GORGEOUS song, sung with tremendous conviction by Joe Bonsall.  This song takes the Believer on a vocal journey to that blessed time when we will finally
meet our Savior face to face, and we're done with this insane world, only to rest in His arms.  "Red River Valley" is a lovely classic, Richard Sterban led song that has beautiful
harmonies.  Next, Duane Allen takes us on an emotional journey with "Til' I See You Again."  This is a song that everyone can relate to.  Whether you've lost a spouse,
a close family member, or a dear friend, you will identify with this song.  If you've ever thought that you can't go on, or have no idea how you will...this is your song.  Listen,
and let it minister to your heart.  Finally, the Boys join in together with full, beautiful, four part harmony, and send all Christians off with a wonderful rally cry in
"When He Calls."  With 4-part harmony all the way through, this short, powerful song, gives a glorious and accurate picture of the Christian life from struggle to death,
and then, Victory!  The harmonies here, are only eclipsed by the eternal, Heavenly message.

The overall sound of this CD is very comparable to the Boys previous release, 17th Avenue Revival, as it was recorded in the same studio.  There are many high points with
this album.  Other than the sheer song selection here, the main high point takeaway, in this reviewer's opinion, is Joe's voice.  Joe sounds almost angelic on this album.
His lead vocals are crystal clear, sure. But on other songs, especially "Love, Light & Healing," when his tenor part kicks in, it takes the song to another level, entirely.  All the Boys
sound great on this album.  However, I must include here...Richard's bass harmonies are turned UP in the mix on this album, thankfully :-)  THAT, is ALWAYS a plus!
